Official: Victor Moses will be welcomed back to Super Eagles

-

Chelsea star Victor Moses will be welcomed back to the Super Eagles should he rescind his decision to come out of international retirement, officials have said.

Victor Moses, 27, has called time with the Eagles, saying he now wishes to focus on his club career and young family.

However, Eagles spokesman Toyin Ibitoye has said the team will be happy to have him back should he at any point decide to return.

“Victor Moses is one of our very best players but we respect his decision to quit (the national team),” Ibitoye said.

“Under Antonio Conte he got an improved contract. We understand his fears under a new manager at Chelsea and so the need for him to focus on his club career.

“But we have also seen many players retire and then come back. We will therefore be happy to welcome him back to the team with open arms.

“At the same time, we hope some young players to step up and throw up other options for us.”

‘I Speak to some of them nearly every day,’ Cesc Fabregas says of his friends back at Barcelona, the club he grew up at and spent nine years with, across two spells. Now though, it’s a little different: ‘Probably now, we speak less — maybe because of the game.’ Chelsea believe they are back in their winning, no-fear, against-the-odds mindset ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 first leg tie, and nothing comes in the way of that. Manager Antonio Conte has been drilling his players on Barcelona for a month. Perhaps that distraction hindered them in embarrassing defeats by Bournemouth and Watford but having beaten West Brom and Hull City Chelsea are confident again. Conte says Barcelona have weaknesses to exploit. Fabregas, too, sees space to ‘hurt’ his former club. This tie is special for the midfielder, who sandwiched his time at Arsenal with his two Nou Camp spells. He is still very close with Lionel Messi — they...
