BEAUTIFUL! Check out UEFA Champions league final ‘Madrid 2019’ artwork

The UEFA Champions League 2018/19 season is set to kickstart with the group stage draw expected to be held today in Monaco with each teams that have qualified will get to know their opponents.

The final for this season will hold at Atletico Madrid’s new stadium Wanda Metropolitano.

The artwork for the 2019 Champions League final will be the first drawn by an artist from the host city, with a Madrid-based artist taking responsibility for this coming season’s design.

While the design will change year to year, the Champions League trophy will remain a constant in the centre of the image, with everything else around it to change based on the artist’s impression of the final in their city.

Ruben Sanchez is the illustrator for this year’s design, and his effort attempts to capture the scene at night in Madrid and is full of energy and objects that represent the Spanish capital.

The main elements from this perspective are: a cat (locals are affectionately called cats), a chulapo (a person wearing a traditional Madrid hat and suit), a guitar, a bear and a madrono (from the city’s coat of arms). Also included are several buildings in the city and the Manzanares river.

UEFA’s collaboration with TEAM Marketing AG and branding agency DesignStudio is the reason behind the approach.
