Gernot Rohr names new Super Eagles squad for AFCON clash today

Gernot Rohr will today announce a 24-man squad for next month’s AFCON qualifier in Seychelles with strong indications that several fresh call-ups will get their chance to shine with the Super Eagles.

Nigeria face Seychelles in Victoria on September 7 in continuation of the 2019 AFCON qualifiers.

“This is a must-win for us and so we will get the strongest squad to get the result,” said team spokesman Toyin Ibitoye.

“The coach is looking at younger players to now step up.

“We hope to qualify and do the nation proud at the AFCON.”

Officials have disclosed that some several players will also be placed on standby for the Seychelles match.

The core of squad will still come from a disastrous World Cup in Russia, but the likes of Kelechi Nwakali and new Bordeaux signing Samuel Kalu are expected to be considered.

Victor Moses, skipper Mikel Obi as well as injured Tyronne Ebuehi and Shehu Abdullahi will miss the match.

Chelsea manager has said Hazard didn’t follow his instructions in the first half of Chelsea draw against West Ham on Sunday. The blues 100% record ended on Sunday at the Olympic stadium with the blues manager claiming it is their worst match of the season. The blues manager speaking after the match said winger Hazard didn’t do what is expected of him in the first half but said he improved after the break particularly in the last 25 minutes of the match. When asked if Hazard followed his instructions the former Napoli manager replied saying “Not in the first half. Better in the second half. But today it was very difficult to play inside. They were cutting out very well every pass for Giroud, so we needed two wingers, I think. Chelsea  boss  Maurizio Sarri  admits he's made a decision over the club captaincy. For the moment,  Cesar Azpilicueta  holds the armband, but the manager says that could soon change. Sarri said on Friday: "I have my idea, I have decided. "But before telling you my decision I would like to speak to the players and the club. In this moment it's not possible so for the moment the captain is Azpilicueta. "I will tell you the final decision after I will be able to talk with the players and the club."
