Ross Barkley is determined to prove his worth to Chelsea after a disappointing first season at Stamford Bridge and he’s certainly been impressing his team-mates in training.

The 24-year-old midfielder had a strong pre-season under new manager Maurizio Sarri and played the full 90 minutes of Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Barkley also started against Huddersfield and Arsenal in the Premier League and was perhaps unlucky to lose his place to loan signing Mateo Kovacic away at Newcastle on Sunday.

However, intent on returning to Sarri’s starting XI, Barkley was busy showing up his team-mates, namely Marcos Alonso, at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground this week.

The former Everton man pulled off one of the cheekiest nutmegs you are likely to see as the Blues took part in a rondo.

Just look at the reactions of Barkley’s team-mates… Eden Hazard LOVED it!

Victor Moses claimed earlier this week that Barkley had been Chelsea’s standout player in training this season.

‘Everyone has been good, everyone is working hard but I’d say Ross Barkley,’ the Nigerian told Chelsea’s official website.

‘He had a big injury but he’s started the season really well and he’s working his socks off.’

Barkley, determined to win over new boss Sarri, has been studying videos of the Italian’s Napoli side from last term.

‘I’ve watched clips (of Napoli) just to see the way they played, out of possession and in possession,’ Barkley revealed.

‘I’ve seen how they played last season, and against Manchester City last season in the Champions League.

‘They were a really exciting team, one-twos all over the pitch, one and two-touch football. Goals from all around the pitch.

‘It was exciting football, and they were unfortunate not to win the league last season.’
