Cristiano Ronaldo is the new captain of Real Madrid

There's no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo is playing some of the best football of his career and as a reward, Real Madrid have handed him the captain's armband.

In the absence of Alvaro Arbeloa, recently transferred to West Ham United, Los Blancos needed a fourth captain and the Portuguese has assumed the role.

He joins Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Marcelo in the quartet 'responsible' for the first team.

Ronaldo came to Madrid in the summer of 2009 and is beginning his eighth season in the all-white.

A veteran of the squad, he's earned the right to be bestowed with the honour of leading the team.

On several occasions. Currently he is the third captain of Los blancos after Sergio Ramos and Marcelo who have been his seniors in the side. RMA has a tendency of chosing a captain who has spent the most time in the club. If they choose on the basis of the leadership or the drive, he might be the first choice. Ramos ain’t no non-sense captain either.

Yes he has captained Real Madrid on few occasions mostly when Ramos , Marcelo , Iker Casillas(when he was at Madrid) were not playing. At Real Madrid captaincy is given on the basis of number of years spent at the club. He captained Madrid against Real Sociedad in 2013 (Iker Casillas was on the bench). Casillas came off the bench when Antonio Adan was given red card and Cristiano offered the captain’s armband to Casillas but he refused.

Right now, Ronaldo is one of Real Madrid’s captains. He is the Vice Captain after Sergio Ramos and Marcelo Viera Da Silva.

With Iker Casilas leaving Madrid means Ramos takes the arm band with Pepe and Marcelo who arrived after the Central defender as his Deputies.

Pepe has left the club after over 10 years, making Marcelo who's the most senior after Ramos his Assistant.

Ronaldo after about 9 years is now one of the most seniors. The set of his Galacticos aside from Benzema aren't in the club. (Alonso, Kaka, Albiol, etc).

Yes he has on numerous occasions and the previous match was just an example of that.

Adding to that fact Real Madrid has never lost a match in which Ronaldo was captain.

Starting match no, but when the older players of Real Madrid get subbed off he becomes captain for the rest of the match.
