Who is the best CDM in the Premier League right now?

Reading the other answers, I can't believe no one has mentioned this man.

Mousa Dembele right now is the best CDM in the premier league. The past month, he has dominated the midield against United (outplaying Pogba so much that Mourinho had to sub him off after 70 minutes) in a massive 2–0 win, against Liverpool in a 2–2 draw although Emre Can definitely put up a good fight, against Arsenal where Wilshere and Xhaka could do nothing against him, and in Champions League where he again was brilliant helping us get a 2–2 draw at Juventus. In arguably the toughest month of the season for us, Dembele stepped up and put in 10/10 performances for us.

Dembele was key to every win. When he is gliding through the midfield pushing our attacks and coming back defensively to break up play, no one can beat Spurs. Thats why he's the best CDM in the Premier League right now.

Edit: I forgot to add this image to sum up Dembele's play

Right now, the best CDM in the Premier League is Manchester City’s Fernandinho.

The Brazilian has played the full 90 minutes in almost every league game this season and is a major part of Manchester City’s dominance.

The combination of Fernandinho’s tackling, passing and leadership in the position of CDM has allowed De Bruyne in front of him to do his magic which is create goals. Also, Manchester City’s defense looks better than it really is because of Fernandinho’s effort, control and decisiveness when intercepting the ball from the opposition. He has single-handedly prevented a countless number of potential breaks from the opposition.

For the 3 seasons before this one, the best CDM in the PL was clearly N’Golo Kante however now it is Fernandinho.

CDM Central Defensive Midfielder

Well, I know the midfielders well. But who makes them (all or some) central or flanking? And how are they classified as defensive or offensive?

Manchester City - Fernandinho, David Silva

Tottenham Hotspur - Wanyama, Dembele, Eriksen

Liverpool - Milner, Henderson, Can

United - Matic, Mata

Arsenal - Oezil, Xhaka, Mkhitaryan

Chelsea - Alonso, Fabregas, Kante

Leicester - Albrighton, Mahrez

These are some of the top midfielders in the Premier League, at present. How many of them are Central? Whom do you consider a Defensiveone?

I zero in on Xhaka, Wanyama, Fabregas, Milner, Silva, Alonso and Albrighton.

Would you agree with my choice, if I say it is James Milner or David Silva? Please justify your arguments. I will do that too, later on….

Fernandinho

No one comes close as of now. He's been lethal with his passes, broken up plays, provided stability to the midfield, acted as a fulcrum, contributed to goals.

He also has the best stats to back it up as well as is the highest rated CDM in the league according to MOTD and WhoScored and also probably the best in the world too this season.

His form is the one if the main reasons why City have been the best team in Europe this season. City have faced the least shots in the league and scored the highest goals. Their XG maps also show they should be scoring 2.5 goals per match and conceding 0.4 per match showing how efficient they've been.

Matic comes second and Kante third.

It’s quite tough to pick one from the likes of N’Golo Kante(Chelsea), Fernandinho(Man. City), Nemanja Matić (Man. Utd), Eric Dier(Spurs),Abdoulaye Doucouré(Watford).

Each player’s playing style is quite different from the other. Some are good with possession and directing the play while some are good at intercepting passes, regaining possession and helping the defense of the team.

The two players who stood out in the premier league this season are Kante and Matić. Chelsea struggled a lot when Kante was injured mid season and Matić has been the glue that held the team together.

If I still were to pick one, it would be Matić. The way in each which he transformed the United team since his entry and has played the most minutes of any United player this season. He won the man of the match twice in his first few matches and has never looked back from there. If you analyse his movements in the field, it shows the mind of a true legend. From the ways he breaks play and resorts to simple passes and movements to him being the main choreographer for the style of play that has made his team keep the most clean sheets this season in the premier league.

When he’s performed well, the team has generally performed well. He frees up the attacking midfielders do push further forward and has made life a lot easier for Pogba. The way he has adapted to United style of play is worth taking special consideration.

N'Golo Kante - Chelsea

The little dynamite works the hardest on the pitch. Even when Chelsea aren't playing at their best ( they have struggled a bit compared to last season ) but even then the work rate and passing accuracy of Kante stands out. His tackles are among the cleanest and he is particularly good at short range passing.

Other honourable mentions :-

Fernandinho - Manchester City F.C.

Nobody else comes close this season.

Hope this helps!

With the current dominance of City I think Fernandinho should be the answer but I’d like to place Kante up there with him.
