Jurgen Klopp: This is why Liverpool lost to Chelsea

Image
JURGEN KLOPP says poor defending cost his Liverpool side as they were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea and exited the Carabao Cup. Hazard celebrates with Azpilicueta, Barkley, Palmieri and Luiz (Image: Reuters)   Liverpool took the lead in the second half thanks to a Daniel Sturridge overhead kick. Emerson Palmieri got Chelsea level with a tap-in but Eden Hazard came off the bench to score a stunning virtuoso goal and put the Blues into the fourth round. And Klopp feels his players were guilty of giving Chelsea too much time Klopp told Sky Sports: "We knew how Chelsea wanted to play but we gave them too much space and weren't compact enough. “We still had the bigger chances in the first half." In the build-up to Palmieri's goal, Victor Moses was fouled and Ross Barkley's header was saved by Simon Mignolet. VAR was used to check whether Barkley was offside but the decision was not reversed. When asked if Chelsea deserved the free-kick which led...

Chelsea into Carabao Cup fourth round as Eden Hazard stunner downs Liverpool at Anfield

Image
CHELSEA had the sublime Eden Hazard to thank as they completed a stirring comeback to knock Liverpool out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. Daniel Sturridge’s acrobatic second-half effort looked to have ended Maurizio Sarri’s chances of securing the first available piece of significant silverware of the season. However, reserve left-back Emerson Palmieri had other ideas as he followed up from a free-kick to draw the visitors level at Anfield. Hazard, who Sarri had left out of his starting XI as he rotated his Chelsea troops, then offered up a glimpse as to why his manager as suggested he could be the best player in Europe. It was also Hazard’s set-piece which had led to the equaliser - so Sarri can be pleased with his own night’s work having brought his star man on. There will be very different teams on show when they meet again at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday. But last night Chelsea struck the first blow as Liverpool ’s seven-game winning...

Eden Hazard: Chelsea star is complete opposite to PSG ace Neymar - pundit

Image
CHELSEA star Eden Hazard is the complete opposite to Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain ace Neymar. That’s the view of former Premier League midfielder Andy Reid who saw Hazard shine again as Chelsea knocked Liverpool out of the Carabao Cup last night. The Belgian scored a stunning solo goal late on as the Blues won 2-1 at Anfield to end Liverpool’s 100 per cent record for the current season. Chelsea’s opener came from Emerson who netted following a free-kick, delivered and won by Hazard. The 27-year-old has a reputation for riding tackles on the pitch, unlike that of Neymar who regularly takes a tumble. And Reid believes that shows the difference in class between the two stars. “It’s a skill in itself, getting your body in between the defender and the ball and the timing of it,” Reid told BBC 5 Live Sport. “They are free-kicks, he doesn’t dive at all. They’re definitely free-kicks. “We’ve seen Jordan Henderson complain and it is debatable but it is a free-kick. Ed...

Man Utd slap £200m price tag on Paul Pogba as Jose Mourinho feud reaches new low on camera

Image
JOSE MOURINHO’s war with Paul Pogba hit a new low in front of TV cameras on Wednesday as Manchester United decided to demand a world-record £200m transfer fee for the French midfielder. Man Utd news: The pair clashed on the training field on Wednesday (Image: GETTY) The toxic relationship between the manager and his star player, made worse in recent weeks, is threatening to wreck United’s season. Pogba wants to leave Old Trafford for Barcelona and Mourinho, who it is understood has been informed of that desire, appears happy to push him closer to the exit. But until the January transfer window opens – or more likely next summer’s – they have to work out an uneasy truce in a bid to pull United out of their early-season crisis. Already eight points off the pace in the Premier League and out of the Carabao Cup following Tuesday’s defeat by Derby, it will only get worse for United if the atmosphere in the dressing room is marred by divisions. TV footage of Mourin...

The most complicated brotherhood in football

Footballing history is littered with examples of successful brothers – from the Charltons to the Nevilles, Socrates and Rai, Yaya and Kolo, the De Boers, and the Laudrups. But perhaps no fraternal fable is as fascinating as that of the Boatengs – Kevin-Prince and Jerome – whose careers have taken very different but curiously interconnected paths.

Former Chelsea striker attacks Mourinho after defeat of Man United by Lampard’s Derby County

Image
Former Chelsea striker, Chris Sutton has criticised Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, following the Red Devils’ shock defeat to Derby County in the Carabao Cup third round encounter played on Tuesday night. County goalkeeper, Scott Carson saved United defender, Phil Jones’ penalty to ensure his team earned a place in the fourth round, winning 8-7 at spot kicks after a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford. Sutton, however, believes that Mourinho should be shouldering the blame instead of putting it on his players after United were dumped from the competition by Frank Lampard’s men. Recall that Mourinho had named Phil Jones and Eric Bailly as t he cause of his side’s penalty shootout loss to County. “I don’t like Mourinho unburdening the blame on the players,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live. “He is the manager. He needs to step up and take responsibility.” Meanwhile, Mourinho’s men will take on West Ham in their next game on Sa...

Chelsea Manager Sarri says Hazard didn’t follow instructions in draw against West Ham

Image
Chelsea manager has said Hazard didn’t follow his instructions in the first half of Chelsea draw against West Ham on Sunday. The blues 100% record ended on Sunday at the Olympic stadium with the blues manager claiming it is their worst match of the season. The blues manager speaking after the match said winger Hazard didn’t do what is expected of him in the first half but said he improved after the break particularly in the last 25 minutes of the match. When asked if Hazard followed his instructions the former Napoli manager replied saying “Not in the first half. Better in the second half. But today it was very difficult to play inside. They were cutting out very well every pass for Giroud, so we needed two wingers, I think. Hazard in the last 25 minutes did very well, more on the right than the left, but it was very difficult today for the striker and the two wingers.” He added also that Chelsea cannot use the Europa league as an excuse for the draw aga...

Chelsea news: Roman Abramovich considers selling Blues after rejecting bids, price tag set

Image
CHELSEA owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly considering putting the club up for sale. Abramovich is set to be putting the club up for sale (Image: GETTY) The Russian took control of the club in 2003, whilst they were in hundreds of millions of pounds of debt, and since then has injected billions into the club. The Blues have won 17 trophies since he took control, including five Premier League titles and the Champions League. However Abramovich is now said to be considering parting ways with the club, as he has not even been in the country since the spring. The Russian billionaire had his visa renewal rejected by the UK Government in June, and since then he has not been able to work in the country. Chelsea immediately announced that plans to redevelop Stamford Bridge - costing a cool £1bn - had been put on hold indefinitely. Bloomberg are reporting that Abramovich is set to move out of England, where he owns a mansion in Kensington next to the Russian embassy. Ma...

Chelsea news: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hails Maurizio Sarri ahead of double-header

Image
JURGEN KLOPP has praised his title rival Maurizio Sarri ahead of their Carabao Cup clash.  Klopp has praised how quickly Sarri has taken to English football (Image: GETTY) Liverpool play Chelsea twice this week, the first meeting of the pair is on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup at Anfield, before the reds travel to London in the league. Whilst both are unbeaten in the Premier League, Liverpool have a perfect record of seven wins from seven games. Klopp has gone on the charm offensive, however, and has praised the work of his opposite number, who has only seen his Chelsea side drop points once in the league, in a 0-0 draw at West Ham. “It’s the biggest change I ever saw in such a short space of time - wow. The style is completely different. What a manager he is,” said Klopp. “I’m pretty much a supporter of his since I saw him at Naples. Outstanding football, and now doing it after a very interrupted...

Arsenal news: Unai Emery blasted by Gunners legend - 'I still see Arsene Wenger's team'

Image
ARSENAL legend David Seaman says he sees little difference in Unai Emery’s team compared to that of Arsene Wenger. Wenger left Arsenal in May, after 22 years at the club, and was replaced by Emery. After back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea, Arsenal  have won five matches in a row. Emery has attempted to get the Arsenal players to start more attacks from the back which has led to notable mistakes from goalkeeper Petr Cech. But Emery is determined to persevere with his philosophy and called for patience from fans and critics However, Seaman doesn’t think he’s seen much of a change in style from Emery. "I am still waiting to see Emery's stamp on Arsenal," Seaman said at the FIFA Best awards. "At the moment, I still see Arsene Wenger's team but we're playing different ways. "But the ways we are playing at the moment [means] we are creating problems for ourselves when we play out from the back." Unai Emery has called for...

FIFA 19: Best dribblers in FUT confirmed – Messi, Neymar, Hazard included

Image
FIFA 19 Ultimate Team success can be achieved with a strong set of dribbling stars – but who are the top 10 on the game? FIFA 19: Who are the best dribblers on the new game? (Image: Getty Images) FIFA 19 Ultimate Team will require a balance of top attributes to master with dribbling skills among the most important for almost every side. The launch of a new game always sparks a rush for pacey forwards and midfielders, but without dribbling talents, they can be underwhelming. Barcelona hero Lionel Messi is rightfully among the elite dribblers alongside former team-mate Neymar. The pair are good enough to shred even the steeliest defences on their own, with FIFA 19 offering plenty of scope to run with the ball.   Messi's team-mate Philippe Coutinho has also made the cut in the top 10, with Real Madrid duo Luka Modric and Isco also involved. The Premier League has just one representative in the sha...

Tottenham news: Pochettino claims Spurs will be in new stadium BEFORE Christmas

Image
MAURICIO POCHETTINO is convinced Tottenham will finally be playing in their new stadium by Christmas. Pochettino insists that Tottenham's new stadium will be finished this year (Image: GETTY) Spurs face Watford tonight in the EFL Cup at Stadium MK because the rebuilt White Hart Lane is still not ready and Wembley is not available. There were fears the 62,062-venue would not be completed until next year but chairman Daniel Levy has told Pochettino otherwise. The Spurs manager said: “I am confident it will be this year. I had some private conversation with Daniel. I think they are confident. “They are working hard to try to find the solution. I hope before the year ends, before Christmas, we can play. That’s my wish.” Pochettino, who will ring the changes against the Hornets tonight, then joked his boss might not like him going public with the new timescale for the stadium. He said: “I hope that after that comment Daniel doesn’t kill me and say, ‘Why you put thi...

Arsenal vs Brentford: Dean Smith reveals team he'd rather face in Carabao Cup - EXCLUSIVE

Image
BRENTFORD are no longer going under the footballing radar, admits Dean Smith - who's revealed he'd rather the Bees be facing Macclesfield than Arsenal on Wednesday night. Dean Smith takes his Brentford side to face Arsenal at The Emirates (Image: GETTY) A quick glance at the Championship table last week would have seen the West London side lying in second place. For some that would have caused a double-take in the not so distant past. But not these days. Ninth place last year followed three successive top-10 finishes since they reached the Championship in 2014, and there is a new 17,250-capacity £70million stadium being built down the road. For a club which has bobbed around the lower divisions for most of its life, these are heady days. But it is Brentford ’s smooth-passing football under former Walsall manager Smith that has really caught the eye.   The amiable Brummie, 47, has turned Brentford into promotion contenders. And his squad, constructed on t...
