Simone targets Chelsea star swoop for Atletico

Diego Simeone is plotting to swoop for Chelsea midfielder, Cesc Fabregas at the end of the season as the Spaniard will become a free agent.

The 31-year-old emerged as a transfer target for Atletico Madrid as his contract with the Blues entered its final year, according to The Mirror.

Simeone has always been a fan of the former Barcelona player and he wants him at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Fabregas has been enjoying life under new manager, Maurizio Sarri following his return from the injury that kept him out of the side at the beginning of the season.

However, the midfielder, has much competition in the middle of the park, with N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all vying for starting places.

But Fabregas is relishing life under his new coach and wants to experience more of the Italian.

‘I wish he came a bit earlier to be honest, it’s a little bit late now in my career,’ Fabregas said last week of Sarri. ‘Definitely I’m very happy with him.

‘I’d love to stay at the club. I’ve been very happy for the last four years and a half, we’ve had great success, won many things.

‘I feel I still have a lot of football left in me but it is now up to the club.’

Chelsea will welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge after the international break in a premier league fixture and are looking well placed to challenge for the title as they currently sit second on the log with 20points, same with league leaders Manchester City and third Liverpool.
