Liverpool already have their own Cristiano Ronaldo as Rooney draws Man Utd comparisons

Image
Wayne Rooney thinks Liverpool already have their own Cristiano Ronaldo. Seeing Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez spearhead Sir Alex Ferguson's 4-3-3 formation stuck fear into most Premier League defences and Liverpool's current trio have been compared to one of the greatest Manchester United sides in recent times. A key component of that United squad was Ronaldo, who went on to win five Ballon d'Ors. The Portugal international's pace and power set him apart from the rest of the players in the league. Rooney was on many occasions a key beneficiary of rapid counterattacks which tore through opposition back lines. And the former England captain, who is now plying his trade for Championship side Derby, reckons Jurgen Klopp has hit own Ronaldo in Mohamed Salah. “Mo Salah is starting to do what Ronaldo did for Manchester United, in terms of just being there and not really getting back to defend but always being a threat so that if you’re a defender or midfielde...

Lionel Messi: Mikel Arteta discusses Arsenal's chances of landing Barcelona star

Image
Mikel Arteta wasn't optimistic about Arsenal's hopes of signing Lionel Messi. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says the prospect of Lionel Messi coming to the Premier League is not something the Gunners are thinking about. Reports in Spain have claimed Messi is considering his future at Barcelona and could leave when his contract ends in 2021. Messi's departure would end a remarkable career at the Nou Camp, where has broken multiple records, dozens of trophies and countless goals. However, the Argentine is said to be disillusioned with life at Barcelona with the burden on him becoming increasingly high. Few clubs would have the financial power to convince Messi to join them but Manchester City would be high on the shortlist of Premier League club given the presence of Pep Guardiola. But speaking ahead of Arsenal's clash with Leicester on Tuesday, current boss Arteta was asked whether he thought Messi could be on his way to English football and unsurprisingly he didn't thin...

Cristiano Ronaldo: Juventus stance on signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as strike partner

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to have a new strike partner at Juventus next season. Cristiano Ronaldo  is more likely to have Arkadiusz Milik as his Juventus strike partner next season than Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, reports say. The Old Lady are hoping to strengthen their attack come the summer transfer window, with Gonzalo Higuain expected to be shown the door. But it appears Milik is the chosen one ahead of Aubameyang. Juventus are determined to sign a new attacker this summer to help Ronaldo, with the Old Lady reliant on the Portugal international this season. The 25-year-old has scored 25 goals across all competitions for the Serie A giants, 13 more than Paulo Dybala and 17 more than Higuain. Juventus hoped the appointment of Maurizio Sarri would spark new life into Higuain but the Argentina international has struggled this season and is expected to be sold when the transfer window reopens again. And  Bleacher Report  say it’s currently Milik, rather than A...

Liverpool make final Thiago transfer decision with Man Utd and Arsenal interested

Image
Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich this summer. “We never had any contact with Liverpool. If he wants to go there, we will have to deal with it.” Liverpool have already hinted that they won't have much money to spend in the summer transfer window having pulled out of negotiations to sign top target Timo Werner. The Reds weren't prepared to meet Werner's release clause, hinting the coronavirus pandemic has left the club re-evaluating their finances ahead of the transfer window opening. With that in mind, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague doesn't think Liverpool would splash out £31m to sign Thiago this summer. Jurgen Klopp also has an abundance of midfield options with Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita all fighting for a spot in the starting line-up. However, he adds that Thiago could be interested in a move to either  Manchester United  or  A...

Mikel Arteta fuming Jamie Vardy escaped red as Arsenal boss gives Eddie Nketiah verdict

Image
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta felt Jamie Vardy should've been shown red during the Gunners' draw with Leicester on Tuesday night. Mikel Arteta  was left "extremely proud" of his  Arsenal  side after they squandered a victory to draw against  Leicester  on Tuesday night - but insisted goalscorer Jamie Vardy should have been sent off well before the Gunners were reduced to 10 men. The north London outfit led through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's first-half finish but Vardy earned the Foxes a late point to avoid slipping within one defeat of fifth-placed Manchester United. But Leicester only scored their equaliser, with Vardy netting his 22nd Premier League strike of the campaign, after Arsenal had substitute Eddie Nketiah dismissed.Nketiah was sent off after catching James Justin high on the knee with his studs on the half-way line, having only replaced Alexandre Lacazette just four minutes earlier. VAR deliberated the decision and after consulting the pitch-side mon...

Mohamed Salah: Did you notice what Liverpool ace had on his shoulder during PSG win?

Image
LIVERPOOL fans were quick to notice slightly worrying about Mohamed Salah during their win over Paris Saint-Germain last night. Jurgen Klopp’s side battled to a 3-2 win over PSG last night in the Champions League opener. Goals from Daniel Sturridge, James Milner and Roberto Firmino ensured Klopp’s side took three points in their Group C clash. Salah had a goal ruled out by referee Cuneyt Cakir who correctly judged that Sturridge had fouled Alphonse Areola when the pair scrapped for a loose ball. The Egpyt superstar made way for Xherdan Shaqiri late on but before he was substituted, fans noticed something worrying about his shoulder. Sergio Ramos controversially injured Salah’s shoulder after a tussle during the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid back in May. The injury ended Salah’s participation in the final and put his World Cup hopes in serious doubt. While Salah did go on to recover and feature for Egypt during the tournament in Rus...

Liverpool news: The one reason Reds are so much better than PSG - Michael Owen

Image
LIVERPOOL were so much better than Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday because the Ligue 1 side are not used to playing against opposition as good as them. Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp's side got their Champions League campaign off to a winning start  That is the opinion of BT Sport pundit and former Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen. The Reds got their  Champions League  campaign off to a winning start, beating PSG 3-2 at Anfield. The scoreline does not tell the story of the game, as Liverpool arguably should have been out of sight before the visitors pegged them back to 2-2 after being 2-0 down. Roberto Firmino struck the winner in stoppage time to give Jurgen Klopp’s side a deserved victory.BT Sport presenter and ex-England striker Gary Lineker suggested to Owen  PSG ’s poor performance was down to the lack of quality in their domestic league. “Talking about PSG, is that perhaps a reflection of the fact they find it so easy in the ...

Champions League: Edinson Cavani hits back at Premier League claims after Liverpool defeat

Image
EDINSON CAVANI has rubbished claims that Ligue 1 is worse than the Premier League. Cavani endured a frustrating night at Anfield as his PSG side were beaten 3-2  (Image: GETTY) He made the comments in the aftermath of PSG’s 3-2 defeat to Liverpool in their first group stage match of the Champions League. He pointed out that many of France’s World Cup-winning squad play in the French league, and therefore the standard must be high. Of the 23-man squad that played in the UEFA Nations League matches against Germany and Holland, just nine played in Ligue 1. Cavani appeared disgruntled after the late defeat, and explained that there are no problems with the league. The best teams in Europe play in the Champions League and when you face them, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose,” he said. “I would like to see Premier League teams play in Ligue 1 so we could see how good they are. “I wouldn’t disparage the French league, as France are the current world c...

Image
NEYMAR and Edinson Cavani proved there is no love lost between the PSG pair during Brazil’s clash with Uruguay last night. Neymar captained Brazil at the Emirates Stadium in a friendly tie with Cavani’s Uruguay. The duo’s relationship has never been the best at PSG ever since Neymar joined the French giants from Barcelona in 2017 - effectively usurping Cavani as top dog. And Cavani showed he is not the biggest fan of his team-mate during Uruguay’s 1-0 defeat. Cavani and Neymar had been niggling at each other for much of the game when the tension finally came to a head in the 86th minute. Neymar  was drilling down the left wing and danced with the ball in front of Cavani. The Uruguay striker in turn lashed out at his PSG team-mate, leaving Neymar in a heap on the turf. Cavani was booked for the incident, which could have injured his club team-mate. And as the footage shows, Cavani clearly made contact with Neymar’s left ankle his is not the first time t...
